Tattoos

Here is how you can get Ta Moko or Kirituhi done.

It can take some time to choose to get a Ta Moko design done and there are often a lot of things you will want to consider.

1. I will meet with you and discuss what you want in your design. When we meet it is helpful if you already know where you want your design placed and what you would like incorporated in it. For most people it helps if you answer the questions

"What is important to me in my life?"                 " What makes me who I am?"

For Maori it is important to remember our Whakapapa (Family History) and for many embarking on the journey towards aTa Moko this can mean some in depth research into Family History and Events. We consider that this contributes to who you have become today and if you are to tell your story you must acknowledge where you have come from.

2. I draw the design for you while we korero (talk) incorporating the relevant patterns you want in it. This part of the process is often a very spiritual and moving experience for people.

3. If you have previously had a tattoo and know what you are in for you can get it applied straight away.

4. If this is your first Tattoo, I recommend taking your design away with you and thinking on it for a week. That way you can make sure it is really what you want and it has all the elements in it that you wanted. We can make any changes to it as you need.
Tattoos are permanent and painful and I am committed to you having EXACTLY what you want.

Please note:
  • I reserve the right to refuse to design your tattoo if I feel you are not making an informed choice.
  • I do not tattoo generic designs. All my designs are custom one offs.
  • I will not put tattoos on anyone under 18 years of age. If you look young ID may be required.
